Three Pedagogical Approaches, One Island
Co-developed with the Friends of Ubin Network (FUN) Educator Workgroup, the initiative is grounded in pedagogical objectives — promoting environmental education and stewardship, highlighting Ubin's natural and cultural heritage.
Teachers are partners in the experience and will co-facilitate the experience. The combination of NParks' site expertise and your knowledge of your students is what makes the Ubin School initiative work.
We offer three programmes, each grounded in Bloom's Taxonomy:
Young Hearts for Conservation — Understanding & raising awareness
Students learn about conservation issues and efforts through hands-on activities like invasive species management, planting, monitoring, and coastal clean-ups at Chek Jawa Wetlands.
Charming Soul of the Island — Applying & analysing
Pulau Ubin is a living classroom where the relationship between people and nature is immediate and visible. Through biodiversity monitoring and observing village life, students discover what city living obscures: that resources like electricity and water are finite, and that every human action leaves a mark on the living world.
Ubin mirrors Singapore's own story — the pressures of development, but also the possibility of regeneration and conservation. Students leave with a deeper understanding that nature is not separate from their lives
Impacting Minds for Action — Evaluating & creating
Students become agents of change by engaging with conservation issues. This programme builds the capacity of young advocates to bring conservation conversations back to their schools and communities. Using the mangrove habitat as a lens, students explore how the mangrove ecosystem functions, adaptions, and how nature and people can coexist. They will discover their connection to the natural world can result in a positive impact.
In a time when climate change can feel overwhelming, this programme offers something different — hope, and a sense of agency.
Co-Curate Your Own Programme
Have a specific learning objective? NParks can work directly with your school to co-curate a programme that meets your specific learning objectives. Whether your school's focus is science, humanities, character development, or sustainability, we can shape the experience around what matters most to your students. We also offer curated programmes for teachers — get in touch to find out more.
