An Update of the Biodiversity in Pulau Ubin, Singapore
Much effort has been undertaken to understand and conserve Pulau Ubin – years of monitoring, habitat enhancement and species recovery initiatives, and biodiversity surveys. We are still discovering undescribed species as well as new records of native plants and animals for Singapore, which speaks volumes about the richness of flora and fauna that lies within our shores and the importance of continued scientific inquiry.
This publication documents the findings from various biodiversity surveys, including the Comprehensive Ubin Biodiversity Survey, which compiles data on the species found on Pulau Ubin. The findings showcase Pulau Ubin as a compelling case study of successful biodiversity conservation. Not only do they reveal how the island plays a vital role in Singapore's conservation landscape, they illuminate the importance of both major habitats and transient spaces that might otherwise be overlooked – reminding us that every corner of our natural world deserves protection and study.
